What can new patients at Gentry Dental expect?

Welcome to our Charlotte, NC dental practice! You will find that we make the process of your first visit with us as easy as possible.

Scheduling An Appointment

Most of what we need to get you started can be sent electronically to us to save you time at your first appointment and to save the trees! We are paperless and utilize all the latest technology to be as environmentally and health friendly as possible. 

You can select any day and time for your new patient appointment using our online booking system.  If for some reason you don’t see an appointment time that works for you (computers are unfortunately not always entirely accurate), send us an email or call us and we will be happy to find a spot for you!

For your convenience, all our new patient forms can be found on our Forms page.  You will be able to provide your dental insurance information there, but it is also helpful for you to send us a secure email through the website with a scan or photo of your insurance card and driver’s license. This will allow us to research your insurance benefits before your appointment if you have dental insurance. If you do not have insurance, we offer a Dental Savings Plan that provides discounts on our standard fees for any needed treatment. 

When You Arrive

When you arrive at our office, expect to be greeted by our friendly team members! We genuinely love our patients and enjoy the relationships we develop with them. We have coffee, tea, and water in the reception area if you so desire. Sit down and make yourself comfortable, but you likely won’t be there long. There are no long waits at our office - we have reserved a time especially for you and strive to be prompt and efficient, without making you feel rushed. Your comfort is our utmost concern, so please let us know what we can do for you. We have warm blankets, neck pillows, noise canceling headphones, and sunglasses for the bright lights available for you. 

During Your Appointment

Our hygienist will review your forms with you and ask you about any special concerns. She will then take records such as dental radiographs (x-rays) to check for cavities and other problems, periodontal (gum) measurements to check gum health, intra-oral photographs of your teeth, and charting of any work such as fillings or crowns that you already have. This allows us to establish a “baseline” of your oral health with which to monitor any changes in the future. 

We utilize digital radiographs that use very low dose radiation for your safety, and they also allow us to see images of your teeth immediately on the computer monitor in your room. Our intra-oral photos will also show on the monitor so that you can see what we see! We believe in educating and collaborating with our patients and welcome any questions you may have. 

The hygienist will perform a thorough but gentle cleaning and provide you with suggestions on the best way to care for your teeth and gums. Dr. Gentry will then meet with you and perform an exam to check for cavities, cracks, and other problems you may be experiencing. She will do and head, neck, and TMJ exam to check for signs of oral cancer and TMJ dysfunction. 

Dr. Gentry wants you to be well-informed about the condition of your mouth, and gladly takes time to discuss her findings, your treatment needs, and your goals and desires for your oral health. Whether it be to get out of pain or to have the bright white smile you’ve always wanted, Dr. Gentry has advanced training in many areas and she will be able to advise you on any treatment needs.

As many medical and dental offices are becoming “corporatized” and impersonal, we have chosen to remain small and personalized.
