What’s the difference between a bridge and an implant?
Dental bridges and dental implants are two popular tooth replacement options that are both effective yet very different.
Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone to take the place of one or more missing tooth roots. After a four- to-six-month healing process, dental crowns are attached to complete the implants. Not only do dental implants look and function most like your natural teeth, but they will also protect your jawbone from shrinking. Implants stimulate the bone much like your tooth roots do, so you will not develop the sunken-in look that many people do as their bone begins to shrink because of missing teeth.
A dental bridge is a restoration that attaches to two teeth or crowns on either side of the gap in your mouth. It will enable you to chew and speak properly, and restore your smile, but it will do nothing to protect the health of your jawbone.
